What can I and can’t I put in my skip?

Our skips are for domestic and commercial building waste which we dispose of responsibly. Not everything can go in your skip, though, as some items are banned for legal, environmental, or safety reasons – see below. This includes electrical equipment, clinical waste, solvents, liquids, and all types of hazardous waste. Call now for specific information regarding your waste and to find out about additional charges that apply for some items, like mattresses, to cover recycling costs.

If you have concerns with anything going into your skip, please call us for advice. In some situations, we can dispose of hazardous waste depending on the type of material and the quantity involved.

What is Hazardous waste and why it should never be placed in a skip

Hazardous waste is defined under environmental legislation and covers waste that contains substances or properties that are harmful to human health or the environment. Anything defined as hazardous waste cannot be put in a skip for general waste. If you’re unsure about the classification of your waste, please contact us and if your waste is hazardous we can arrange specific disposal.

Asbestos
Asbestos

Asbestos is a highly dangerous material covered by strict regulations. It should never be mixed with other rubbish and needs expert handling and specialist removal.

Gas Cylinders
Gas Cylinders

Gas cylinders that still have gas in them are extremely dangerous but there is also a risk from empty cylinders as they will always contain residual amounts.

Electronics
Electronic Equipment

Electrical equipment disposal comes under WEEE regulations so should not be treated as general waste. Contact us to discuss disposal options and additional recycling fees.

Batteries
Batteries

Batteries of all sizes require specialist recycling as they need to be broken into their component parts. We recommend finding a battery recycling location.

COSHH
COSHH

Medical and chemical waste is hazardous, particularly if handled without the correct safety equipment. Therefore, you’ll need a specialist company to deal with this type of waste removal.
